Ginger’s post-surgery results

I just got word from Dr. Sip that Ginger is recovering well after the tooth extraction. *whew*

We bought Ginger into see the vet, Dr. Sip, at 8:30 this morning.  Before dropping her off for the surgery, I had a moment to speak with Dr. Sip to ask why the teeth was not removed the first 3 times.  She assured me that this time she would take an x-ray and make sure the tooth gets removed.

At around 3:30, Dr. Sip called to let me know that Ginger was fine.  She had to cut into the gums a little bit in order to extract the tooth because it was crooked inside and it was hard to pull it out.  She also filed down Ginger’s back molar again.  Ginger had the same molar filed down last month when she went in for the surgery and I was told at that time that Ginger would need regular filings every 3 months.  Turns out, judging by the rate of growth, Ginger will need to get her teeth filed every 2 months.  Not only is that a lot of money ($160 each time), but it also means that Ginger will need to be put under on a regular basis, every 2 months.  That’s rough on my wallet and her body – but it needs to be done.

Ginger’s 4th Surgery

Ginger’s going to be having her 4th surgery, the 3rd on her teeth, this coming Wednesday.  She’s having another of her peg tooth removed (not the same one that got removed last month).  Dr. Sip suspects that Ginger broke off the peg tooth before she had the chance to examine Ginger and that’s why she didn’t see the peg tooth.  Either way, it needs to be removed because Ginger no longer has bottom teeth and therefore, she has nothing to grind down the upper teeth and sooner than later, the teeth will overgrow and cause problems.

I’m just praying that this is the last time she’ll have to endure surgery.  For a bunny, being put under anesthesia 4 times, can’t be healthy or safe.
